WASHINGTON nike presto rosa scontate , Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Poverty seems to have nothing to do with developed countries, such as the United States, the economic powerhouse. However, as it turned out, this is indeed a problem for the world's largest economy.
According to an article by Carol Graham, an expert with the Brookings Institution nike presto nere scontate , although the living standards of the poor in the U.S. now have been improved compared with those in 1970s, poverty is still exacting a high cost - not in terms of water and power bills, but in terms of stress, unhappiness, and pain.
After analyzing Gallup data, the expert found that compared with wealthy people whose monthly household income is larger than 7 nike presto grigie scontate ,500 U.S. dollars, the levels of stress, worry, physical pain, sadness, and anger are all significantly higher among low income cohorts whose monthly household income is lower than 2 nike presto bianche scontate ,000 dollars. The low income group's satisfaction with life as a whole is also significantly lower than wealthy ones.
Of these problems troubling the U.S. poor, stress, worry and physical pain are the top three difficulties experienced by the poor. Nearly 45 percent of the poor surveyed experienced stress, over 40 percent reported worry, and about 38 percent of the poor said they experienced physical pain.
Graham quoted a study by Ronald Anderson, a professor at University of Minnesota nike presto ultra flyknit scontate , as saying that those with incomes below the poverty line were twice as likely to report chronic pain the mental distress as those earning more than 75,000 dollars in annual income.
Statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau showed that nearly 15 percent of Americans lived in poverty in 2012, which means a single individual with an annual income less than 11,720 U.S. dollars and a family of four with an annual income less than 23, 492 dollars can be categorized as the poor. From 2000 to 2007, the U.S. poverty rate remained below 13 percent.
The U.S. poverty rate will gradually decline for the foreseeable future nike air presto ultra flyknit scontate , but will not return to its pre-Great Recession level by 2024 despite continuing improvements in job market, a separate research by the Brookings experts Emily Cuddy, Isabel V. Sawhill and Richard V. Reeves indicated.
Poverty and income inequality remains a problem in the U.S. society, which has set a tone for a central debate in the 2016 presidential race: How to address the struggles of the middle class.

SUVA, March 15 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people in Vanuatu were confirmed killed by Tropical Cyclone Pam as disaster relief authorities and aid agencies continued their search and rescue operations, an aid agency official said Sunday.

GUIYANG, March 6 (Xinhua) -- When rape flowers begin to blossom in the rugged fields of southwest China, people know it is time to depart. Young fathers and mothers leave home to find jobs, putting toddlers and teenagers into the hands of elderly grandparents.
For the past decades, spring always brought hope along with a sense of the inescapable sorrow of separation for people at Dazhai village, Bijie county, Guizhou Province. The village has over 2,200 people, mostly of the Miao ethnicity, and the most common way to escape poverty is to find jobs elsewhere.
Cai Qun, a 36-year-old mother, repeatedly experinced such departures before emerging as a creative embroidery artist and becoming a successful entrepreneur. She is also among the 2,800-strong deputies of the 12th National People's Congress, now gathering for the most important political meeting of the year in Beijing.
Cai wants to bring more congressional and public attention to the fate of China's "left-behind children."
"A child needs a mother. Stop the mothers from leaving and bring them back," she said.
Cai's hometown, Bijie, a poor city in Guizhou of southwest China, has witnessed the brutal damage poverty and absence of parental care can do.
In 2012, five street children in Bijie died from carbon monoxide poisoning when burning charcoal for warmth, in a roadside dumpster. In 2015, four left-behind children aged 5 to 13, from one family, died after drinking pesticide at home.
There are about 260,000 left-behind children in Bijie. Nationwide, China has more than 60 million children in rural areas who are left with relatives, usually grandparents. These children are easy victims of tragedies such as murder, trafficking and suicide.
"I hope there will be more incentives, like loans to small business who can offer jobs to mothers in their hometowns," Cai said. "When mothers do not have to leave, there are fewer left-behind children."
FROM WASTE-PICKER TO LAWMAKER
Cai's childhood was mostly about fighting hunger, the reason she left hometown. Cai's mother, now 87, gave birth to 13 babies, of which six survived, with Cai Qun the youngest. She has four older.
